Get a Free Copy of the Web Designers Guide to WordPress
This August my first book will be on shelves. Last fall when Michael Nolan from New Riders approached me I couldn’t believe it and now I’m in the process of finishing the book.
The book is titled the “Web Designers Guide to WordPress” and is going to build on your HTML, CSS and JavaScript skills to create WordPress themes. WordPress is growing at an astounding rate and it’s creating job security, if you know how to build for it.
At the end of the book I’m going to feature about a dozen of the best WordPress Plugins (paid and unpaid) and I need your help. Leave a comment on this page with your favorite WordPress plugins. I will select 3 people at random between now and May 15th to be the first to receive a copy of the book.
I can’t wait to read your recommendations!

Hi Jesse,
I would recommend a Minify plugin:

Hope that’s useful.
Thanks

Hey Jesse,
I recommend these plugins for every website: Contact Form 7, Google Analytics for WordPress, WordPress SEO by Yoast, Twitter Tools, CloudFlare, WordPress Importer.
And some personal favorites: Infinite Scroll, Instagrate to WordPress, Portfolio Slideshow (responsive + mobile friendly).
Good luck!
Hi Jesse
I recommend the SEO Facebook comment plugin by @bemcapaz
“This plugin will insert a Facebook Comment Form, Open Graph Tags and ALSO insert all Facebook Comments into your WordPress Database for better SEO.”

Looking forward to reading your book.

WP Remote!
WordPress is great cause you can do pretty much anything with it this days. I recommend you to tell designers they can step out of the box using the plugins More Types and More Fields to create their own WordPress objects.
Using this plugins you can create a lot of things. From extra info in posts and pages to a product catalogue. Kudos on your first book. I know it will be the first of many. Good luck man.
The three that I install on all new WordPress instances are WordPress Firewall 2, Login Lockdown, and W3 Total Cache. They all have their flaws, but I find sites load faster and run more securely with those three in place.
On any given project, I may also use Gravity Forms (paid, but very high-quality forms plugin with support); CMS Tree Page View or similar, to let page-heavy clients get a clean, hierarchical tree view of their pages; and of course bbPress for forums.
Can’t wait for your book, it is going to be a big help to a lot of aspiring WP devs!
All the above suggestions are awesome, but we can’t forget Smush.it. Awesome for compressing images on sites.
Hi Jesse,
Congrats on your first book!
I think Modernizr for WordPress is a great plugin!
W3Total cache, Yoast SEO and YARPP.
WordPress Database Backup, Gravity Forms, Social Media Widget, Really Simple CAPTCHA, NextGEN Gallery, Google XML Sitemaps, Comprehensive Google Map Plugin, All in One SEO Pack
